Educated in Physics and Engineering, John has held senior design & management roles in BAE Systems, where he was responsible for airborne Radar products, and in Pentland Systems, where he held Board-level posts as Marketing Director and Technical Director. At Pentland Systems, John was co-author of the business strategy plan that secured $5m venture capital financing and culminated in the successful sale of the business to a major industry conglomerate. John was also Managing Director of a small mechanical engineering firm for 10 years, in which he held sole responsibility for all finance, accounting and operational activities.

Recently, John worked with Chart Group in New York City, for both the Venture Capital and Private Equity funds, contributing to venture & LBO deals worth over $200m, covering sectors from technology and government services, to consumer, industrial and energy. With Chart, John specialized in the financial analysis and deal structuring of potential investments and contributed his entrepreneurial skills and experience to the development of multiple portfolio companies.

John graduated from the EMBA-Global program at Columbia and London Business Schools in 2008 and received the Distinguished Service Award for his service to the schools and the program.

John joined Echoing Green as Finance Director in February 2009 and is thrilled to be using his skills and experience in delivering increased impact through investment in socially-oriented entrepreneurial and sustainable businesses.
